Would You
Care For an Appetizer?
By Pastor Timothy Burdick
"Then
the angel said to me, 'Write: Blessed are
those who are invited to the wedding supper
of the Lamb!' “And he added, 'These are the
true words of God'" (Revelation 19:9)
As I meditated on the
Scripture for this devotional, I imagined
myself to be in the King’s restaurant at His
invitation, and I thought about how blessed
I have been to be loved by Him. But while
all people are invited to this love, this
feast, I was saddened for I knew that only a
few would respond to His invitation.
As I thought about the
"wedding supper of the
lamb" in that light, the following
words came to my mind: "Would you care for an appetizer?"
It was as if God was
saying to me: "You are
My hands and feet in the world. You need to
let people have a little taste of My
goodness." Sadly He then continued, "For when times of trouble come to most people, they
shake their heads and reject the idea of a
loving God."
We are God’s servants,
but I am afraid that most of us don’t give
out appetizers to the world as we should. We
don't tell others just how good God really
is. So as you consider this verse for today
in Revelation 19, look also at Psalms 34:8 -
"Taste and see that
the Lord is good; blessed is the man who
takes refuge in Him." If you have
tasted of God’s goodness, take a kind word,
a smile, or a Scripture, wherever you go, so
that others can "taste"
Him as well.
Always remember that
you can make a difference for the good.
Share with the person
that God brings across your path today,
telling them in word and action that there
is a place of safe refuge in God, and that
they don’t have to hide in things like drugs
and alcohol any longer. We are set free in
Him. Let them know just how much God loves
them, and that they too are welcome to come
to the feast that all believers in Christ
will share in one day. And He has an "appetizer" for them right this minute.
Remember Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ Jesus who
strengthens me."
