WHY JESUS CAME
AS A CARPENTER
By Pastor
Timothy Burdick
"The
Lord appeared to him in the past, saying: 'I
have loved you with an everlasting love; I
have drawn you with loving-kindness. I will
build you up again and you will be
rebuilt... Again you will... go out to dance
with the joyful" (Jeremiah 31:3-4)
The life of Jesus is
seen in many ways in Scripture, but one
thing we don’t pay much attention to is His
work as a carpenter. His coming in this
fashion was no mistake. If you look closely
at His life, you can see Jesus was always
building and restoring the lives of His
disciples.
Remember for example
how Jesus taught His disciples about servant
hood? Then He reinforced that concept even
deeper into the life of His disciples by
washing their feet, as we see in John
Chapter 13.
Long before Jesus,
Jeremiah spoke about this building up of
people, which He did when He was on earth,
and is still doing today.
The Scripture for this
devotional is addressed to Israel, but place
your name where I have inserted the
parentheses - God loves you just as much as
He loves anyone who has ever lived:
"The
Lord appeared to (insert your name) in the past, saying: 'I
have loved you with an everlasting love; I
have drawn you with loving-kindness. I will
build you up again and you will be
rebuilt... Again you will... go out to dance
with the joyful" (Jeremiah 31:3-4)
As a disciple of Christ
in the twenty-first century, Jesus wants to
build and/or restore your life to what it
once was; to what it should have been, all
this time. The question is, will you let
Him? He wants to draw you out from dwelling
on that trial in your life that you are
trying to conquer in your own strength. Will
you let Him? When he talks of the idea of
again being "joyful,"
it simply means He wants to restore your
life regardless of what you may be facing.
The question again is: Will you let Him?
Spend time with Him in
prayer, both speaking to Him and listening
as well. Get to know Him. God only wants
your best and if you are a believer, your
body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. So,
allow Him to take your life and build you
into a monument for His glory; allow Him to
love you in a deeper way, and finally, allow
Him to make all things new in and for you,
now and forever.
