A New Look
At God's Love
By Pastor Timothy Burdick
"The
Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: 'I
have loved you with an everlasting love; I
have drawn you with loving-kindness. I will
build you up again and you will be rebuilt,
O Virgin Israel. Again you will take up your
tambourines and go out to dance with the
joyful.'" (Jeremiah 31:3-4)
Have you ever stopped
to ponder God’s love? Or are you like most
of us who just take it for granted? Insert
your own name into today's Jeremiah passage,
instead of the name, "Israel."
For no matter what you are going through,
you can know that God is a good and loving
God who wants to "build
you up" and encourage you.
He has told all of us
about His "everlasting
love" in His Word that we call the
"Bible." He has shown us that love in His
Son, and every day as He walks with us
through our life, He carries our load as He
draws us out of sadness through His "loving-kindness."
If the results of this
love can reasonably only be thankfulness and
praise, then why are most of us so
ungrateful, which in turn leads to a
defeated life? One reason is because we
spend too little time basking in that love.
All of us are not only busy, but we live in
a very noisy world, where we are continually
on information overload. Step aside
from the clamor of humanity and listen to
His love.
God wants you to
reflect on His love today. He wants you to
know that He has already overcome in advance
whatever problems you are going through, so
the end result is that you will "dance with the joyful" of the Lord.
We have all heard a lot
about God’s love; now He is saying it is
time for us to apply that knowledge. Find
some place where you can be alone with Him,
and let Him mold you into His image.
