A Special Gift

Once I received a special gift but kept it to myself; I didn’t want to share it, so I put it on the shelf. When I passed the corner where my gift was all alone, What it added to my life I counted for my own.
But it grew old and dusty and lost its brilliant shine, And I knew that I had erred by keeping it as mine.
"Please share your gift today," the Father said to me, "For the light of my love is what folks need to see." So I polished my gift and took it from its place, And tried to share its beauty that once I had erased.
Don’t do what I did and keep things to yourself,
For He asks you, "Is My beauty just sitting on a shelf?"
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" (James 1:17)
