Aroma Therapy
By Pastor Timothy Burdick

Many people practice aroma therapy, deriving the health benefits from fragrant oils. In the Bible, oil is used as a type of the Holy Spirit and we are told by Paul the Apostle to walk or live in that Spirit.

Read how Paul says aroma therapy is part of the Christian life and then I will give you some tips on practicing it - “Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?” (2 Corinthians 2:14-16).

Our “triumphal procession” in Christ, in God’s Spirit, simply means making your body a continual home for Him. If you prepare your house for a special friend, you do your upmost to make that person feel comfortable. Shouldn’t we do more for the Creator of the universe?

The first thing we need to do then is realize just who This Holy Spirit is. He is not an “it” like some people think. He is a person who intends to be the best Friend you’ll ever have.

Many people think of walking in Christ, in the Spirit as being difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. Back to when you hear about some friend of yours who is coming to your home - you rearrange the furniture and clean the house!

That is what God is asking you to do. Confess any sin in your life that would stop the flow of the Holy Spirit. Make Him number one in all areas of your life. As you do this, you will find a new joy, and your life will be filled with purpose and meaning. This is not to say that things will necessarily be easy, but God will be with you in a deeper way and the sweet "fragrance" of your life will be obvious to all.
